Expanding Mental Health First Aid across the Great South Coast.

Consultation has concluded

Supporting the mental health literacy of young people across the region is an area of focus of the Great South Coast Suicide Prevention Place Based Trial.

This project aims to expand on the capacity to deliver Youth and Teen Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) across the five local government areas that make up the Great South Coast region; Warrnambool, Glenelg, Southern Grampians, Corangamite and Moyne Shires.

By utilising best practice training programs, the goal of the project is to improve the mental health literacy of young people and the adults who support them (teachers, parents, carers, sports coaches) across the whole Great South Coast.

This project will support the expansion of Teen and Youth Mental Health First Aid by:

  • training 12 Teen Mental Health First Aid Instructors and 8-10 Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructors from across the Great South Coast
  • delivering Teen and Youth Mental Health First Aid courses to community members and young people of the Great South Coast.

The delivery of evidence-based suicide prevention and mental health education across the Great South Coast region of Victoria, aims to ensure consistent, research-based messaging and information circulates within the community and across the whole region. This is essential to reducing stigma, increasing mental health literacy and encouraging positive help-seeking behaviours.

For detailed information on each of the MHFA courses on offer, can be found in the Teen and Youth MHFA Flyers section and important links.
