Outside the Locker Room Welfare Program - Great South Coast

Consultation has concluded

It is no secret that across the state and country the statistics for males who lose their life to suicide are two thirds higher than that of women. Figures for men across the Great South Coast are no different, this makes the Men’s Health and Wellbeing project so important to us.

The trial leadership group prioritized men as a target group for the trial works. A working group was established to further plan and scope meaningful and effective activities. The working group was made up community members with key insight to support the development of the activities.

Discussion in the working group supported us to understand that we need to gather key information that can be utilized in the future to help develop services and support for local men. The finalized and endorsed activity was to provide a platform to guide understanding and thoughts on important factors that can provide insight to mental health, lifestyle factors that impact mental health and stigma.

Outside the Locker Room (OTLR) are working with the Great South Coast Suicide Prevention Place Based Trial by offering their program, fully funded, to 12 clubs, groups and/or employers across the Great South Coast, they will receive 1 x mental health education session and 12 months of welfare support via the OTLR welfare support program.

OTLR is a grassroots program that supports sporting clubs and community groups by providing education and welfare support on mental health and other social topics. The mental health of your members is a key part of your success, be active in how you can support our members and be one of the 30 lucky clubs that bring this program fully funded by the Ballarat Suicide Prevention place based trial to your club. This activity has a 3 fold effect by firstly building the confidence and capacity of your members and the community to understand the impacts of mental health, having access to continuous support via the OLTR welfare team and completing the questionnaire in the app to give us first hand information on who we can provide better support to men of the Great South Coast Region in the future.
