Mental health and being a mum

Since having my son I have found my mental health to go down hill I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in September last year but since then I have struggled with falling through the gaps of the mental health system. I always feel like I’m being classified as to hard because I’m a mum and have mental health issues.

it has taken multiple home visits from mental health teams and my sons paediatrician ringing mental health team to get me to finally see a psychologist. Because I’m on low income it’s hard to be able to pay for visits to psychologists and get the the treatment I need

I agree that psychiatrists and psychologists are very expensive and I am sure many people miss out simply because they can't afford the sessions. I know there are a few sessions available through the GP but most people need multiple sessions for appropriate treatment. I hate that it always comes down to money and the people who need it so badly miss out.

Mental health issues are definitely not a poor person's affliction. Getting assessed and treated should be available to everyone from a fairness standpoint. The costs of not getting advice or treatment can escalate out of proportion to far reaching dimensions. The causes can almost appear infinite or insurmountable but the longest journey has to start with the first step (and in the right direction).
